Thanked: 1Beware the make-up mirror
My GF bought a make-up mirror that sits on top of the vanity where I shave. It has a regular mirror on one side and a magnifying mirror on the other.
Well, I had my usual straight razor shave, felt my face - smooth, I thought. Then I looked in the magnifying mirror and in some spots it looked like I had trees growing out of my face!
Re-lathered and went to work, checking and re-checking as I went. Several passes later I got satisfactory results, but realized that the only way to cut those trees was against the grain - which made me try new angles (it's hard to shave left to right on the throat) and the only way to get them down under the nose was upward - lip to nose.
New angles and new strokes = blood - styptic - pain.
I was feeling pretty good about my shaves until she brought home that damn new mirror. Now I can't help looking in it after every shave.
I suppose I'll just be a better shaver after a while, but I'm getting awfully tired of that styptic.
Why do women have to make everything so hard?

Thanked: 0Oh, that's an easy one: "Honey, thank you so much for getting this fantastic mirror. Look at those HUGE stubbles left - I REALLY REALLY need that supersharp TI to get those"

I bought one of those mirrors with the 8X magnification on one side and experienced the same result. I just don't look anymore. Unless you live somewhere where all the people are wearing 8X magnification glasses, you're good to go.

That's why I shave based on how I FEEL, not how it looks at a magnified, microscopic level! For example, right now, I get it pretty smooth on my face, but my neck is just "okay". Not a 5 o'clock shadow or anything, but certainly not BBS. I could still see little hairs there even without a magnified mirror!
Yes, we could all get it a little bit smoother, but is it really that necessary? If we FEEL clean shaven, and we don't look like we need to shave, then that's good enough for me! After all, we're not passing out any awards for smoothest shave. (Right? Just making sure!)
Anyway, I think you had it right when you said, "felt my face - smooth." That was your first reaction and instinct. Stick with that. Had it not been for that damn mirror, you would walk away with a satisfied shave!
So if you're satisfied, then leave well enough alone, and avoid the pain if you can help it! Besides, if you're like me and enjoy shaving, then not getting BBS simply means you're that much closer to shaving again!

Vanity, all vanity--like trying to catch the wind.
Two words (I think): Make-up Mirror, if you don't like how you look in it, put make-up on. That's what the mirror is designed for. I think they make those mirrors with the magnification simply to get women to put more makeup on.
Instead, get a Shave Mirror. If you don't like how you look in it, shave it off! It's all about having the right tool for the job.
Though, if you can get a new razor out of the deal then you might as well work your angles!

I feel your pain my hair grows a really severe angles on my chin and even more so on my neck so that wtg really doesn't do much for feel on neck. press on, and you may try witch hazel it works wonders for stopping light blood and razor burn.
