I did a TON of home work. 3 months ago I started lather building. 2 months ago I started DE shaving and now Im on the straight. It definitely helps when you have a few things out of the way and learned (even though my lather was a tad dry).

Also a good first attempt, I look forward to the next video.
I knew what I did right when it happened. At least it was a mistake I know how to avoid. Thanks for the interest guys!
    Next video soon.

And so it begins. This is just how it is for most first timers I think. A good start, Matt.

I was more nervous about my first ever video than my first straight razor shave!

great start.. i think you;ll find the mustache area and chin not that much harder than the cheeks once you get the movement.. thats a small razor what 3/8 or 4/8? after starting out with a 5/8s, I found that i really liked the larger sizes. although those 9/8+ are kind of getting a bit out of hand..

keep at it... it's very rewarding personally, it just like taking pictures of when you do your first reverse sear on a beautiful steak and it's magnificent!! and you want to share the visuals, not the steak..

Its a Torrey Celebrated 4/8. Today I shaved with a Genco, 5/8 or 6/8 have not measured it. Definitely a different feel than the smaller blade. I have a 5/8 or 6/8 Torrey Im going to try shaving with tomorrow. I watched that video from AFDavis11 on stropping and my stropping has improved dramatically and I think that helped the shave today.
After 3 days growth there is a lot more tugging or resistance on the first pass. 2 and 3 are nice and easy.
