    Yeah, don't sweat the difference between the 5/8 and 6/8. The only benefit is that the blade is a bit wider on the 6/8 and a little easier to strop and hone. Also heavier so easier to manage in the shave, but both those things are mild differences. Unless you're trimming around a moustache, either will do fine.

    I am new to this also and I think getting a start up kit is the best way to go. I was told to do this but didn't because I was to anxious to get something. When you have what you need at once you don't have to worry about pieceing everything together and then you can upgrade later, and trust me, you will want upgrades

    I have everything from a 3/8 to a 15/16 They are all fine. Sometime I like a narrow blade and sometimes a wider one. The 6/8 is a good starting place.
