Thanked: 0HELP
Today I shaved with a straight razor for the first time. The shave was quite nice, I really enjoyed it. I used a vintage razor that I inherited. I had the razor professionally honed and cleaned up. On the finishing touches of the shave I dropped the razor and nicked the blade. I'm sure you're cringing at the thought, Sorry I'm new at this. It's a very small nick but noticeable. Do I need to have it honed again or will the strop take care of it? I can't take a pic at the moment but I will. thank you for your help.

Ouch sorry to hear that. I don't think a strop will be up to the task, you might have to get it re-honed. I don't have much experience with this, hopefully a more senior member can give you some better news, but from what I have read it will have to go off for a hone.
Good luck.

Thanked: 13247My basic rule of thumb, if you can see the damage with a 30x loupe or lower ie: the naked eye you will feel it on your face...
Most nicks require honing...

Thanked: 983Ditto what he said ^ . If it's got a nick it will need to be smoothed out on a stone I'd reckon. gssixguns' advice, as usual, is wise.

This is a great reason to have one or two, or thirty back up razors. Not that you need an excuse to get into RAD...but sometimes you need excuses once you have RAD!
