Thanked: 0one handed or two handed?
I am an experienced de shaver (one handed). I am now on my third straight shave. Needless to say I am continuing with the one handed approach. However, viewing a youtube it was mentioned that two handed is much better. (HMMM?) Now while I'll agree once the muscle memory is developed I will have quite a feeling of accomplishment on the other hand this is difficult enough without trying to learn to write left handed so to speak. (no offense to lefties either). Was the comment the narrators affectation or is it generally accepted that you've got to learn to shave two handed to really claim the mantle of straight razor shaver? Thanks!

Somewhere near two thirds of straight shavers will comfortably use two hands. I tried for many months to get my off hand working for me, but it never took. I still recommend it to new shavers though. Don't sweat it. Get the job done.

I shaved both-handed back in my disposable razor days, so it never really bothered me when I transitioned. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is what you are comfortable with, and what gives you the best shave. By all means, experiment with different methods and see what works for you, but I don't think there is any stigma or anything with one-handed shaving.

I am about to have my 3rd straight shave today. Ive been using my left hand for left side. I am right handed so its a little tougher but Im sticking with it. Just keep practicing.

Thanked: 2I am just starting at this, but when I go one handed I cannot get into a position where I can pull my skin a little bit. I have very square almost sharp jaw line, so the pulling of the skin is critical to getting a close shave. I tried to go one handed, but the shave for me on that opposite side is just much better with my left hand doing the job and my right hand pulling the skin. There is no question my left hand is not nearly as agile. Accordingly, on the rare shave that I go for my upper lip and chin I go back to the right hand since the added benefit isn't worth the sacrificed agility.

Thanked: 0I own a Böker 140503 (Extra Hollow Ground standard size) and to shave the upper lip and chin I use both hands, for sides I just use my right dominant hand. I think it depends of how is more comfortable for you and the area of the face you want to shave.

I know exactly how you feel. All I can say is, "It's not as hard to use your other hand as you may think."
The bottom line though is: "Do what's most COMFORTABLE for you." Are you comfortable only using one hand? Then don't change. Remember, there isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to shave. Everyone is different, and everyone has different ways to shave the hair that grows at different angles from you or me.
So if you can comfortably get all your angles with one hand, then no sense in complicating things by trying to switch! But for me, as a beginner, I found that some areas were tough to get with one hand, and using my left hand was not only EASIER (angle-wise), but also not as hard as I imagined.

I made myself use both hand when I started. Now it's second nature. I like using both hands it seems easier to get to certain spots. I have shaved my whole face with just one hand (both right and left) to see if I could and I prefer using both. To be quite honest though it's personal choice. Many people only use one hand and don't even care to use both. You will just have to give it a try and see which way you like.

If you can get a good shave using one hand, do it. I find it easier to use both hands. I get more control of the razor using my left hand when shaving the left side of my face.
