    Default First Shave..... AWESOME!!!!!!

What a way to start the day. I wake up to a knock on the door and its the mail man with my badger brush and mug and soap. I was like sweet. if only my razor came in the mail. I went back upstairs and started opening the box when another knock at the door. Its the fedex man. I was like WOW no way. This is amazing. It was my razor. So i opened it all up. Washed the brush. And I had to shave. So I sat down for my first go at it. Making the lather was fun. Also putting it on my face was way better than that canned stuff. Time to shave. Ill tell you what... I must have been a straight razor shaver in a previous life cause I did Terrific. No pressure like everyone has said with a 30 degree angle or less and it just glided across my face. All that reading and watching videos on straight razor shaving really paid off. Now I only went wtg this first shave. But I can see a HUGE dif in this shave vs my gillette fusion which is not very good. My Gf was like wow that is very smooth. Im so excited. Also to top off the day I got my gf a bottle of Au Bon Climat 2006 Pinot Noir and got myself a nice cigar to enjoy with my Knob creek Bourbon. Im off work today. WHAT A GREAT DAY SO FAR!

Way to go! You're a natural. Now I feel like busting out a cigar myself to celebrate along with you (I got a coolidor full of them)!

One thing you may want to look into (if you like warm lather) is a scuttle. I just got mine from Julie Moore (Dirty Bird Pottery) and it is AWESOME! I thought shaving before was refreshing, but having a nice warm lather on your face for your first, second, and third pass is icing on the cake!

I was originally going to get one of those scuttles, but to import it from Germany into the USA, the shipping was almost half the cost of the scuttle, and I didn't want to wait that long. I opted for getting the Dirty Bird scuttle because it was a little smaller (which was fine for me), and I liked the positive feedback from other members who owned one.

I have a good friend who travels to Germany every month, so in the future, I may have him bring me back one of those Schwarzweisskeramik versions, but since I have small bathroom counter tops, it's not a high priority for me now that I have the 1.5 Scuttle from DB.

    Hey,
A little behind here, but congrats on your first shave. What a perfect alignment of deliveries!

I had a similar first experience with the straight. I know some guys struggle, and I feel for them, but it seems like straight shaving just comes naturally for some of us. Keep enjoying your razors.

(*disclaimer:a measure of success and enjoyment is not a claim to perfection: I still have plenty to learn!)
