Thanked: 10Great New Razor
Greetings,
It seems that most of the popular razors I read about are at least 5/8ths or larger. So, that is what I have been using since I started using straight razors. I have three razors all 5'8ths or larger. I am new so I may not know any better....but.
I just received a new razor that I bought from the classifieds. I have been using 5/8th razors or larger for the past six weeks. I bought a Gibson Barber Supply Co. Duluth, Minn. “OUR PET” 4/8th Square Point Full Hollow Ground razor on the classifieds from SMYTHE. By the way...he is a great guy.
I was pleasantly surprised. This razor was in great condition. Not only did it seem small but was also very sharp. Very shave ready.
I was also surprised at how well it shaved. Its small size made it easier to see around. I think what I liked most about it was how nimble it seemed while shaving. It glided on my skin and danced around the corners of my mustache. Getting to the spots that have previously been difficult for me with a larger razor seemed much easier.
The smaller blade, to me, seemed much easier to use and fit my hand much better. It immediately became my favorite razor. I will still use my other razors but my favorite is my 4/8th inch "Goliath." It is now my morning, before coffee, bleary eyed razor.
Best regards,
Johan

Thanked: 190Its always good to try a few to see which one you prefer and that may change the more you shave. I enjoy stropping the bigger razors more 7/8,8/8 and I do enjoy their heft. But the 5/8's all shave well, so lots of fun.
