Cars are a fantastic example. The processes used to obtain material for, ship around parts, and manufacture the batteries for the Prius are TERRIBLE for the environment. Jeremy loves to talk about it on Top Gear; I'm sure he exaggerates a bit (I mean, he's Jeremy Clarkson...), but I'm sure he has some grounds.

Plus, with cars, it's as much about how you drive as what you drive.

You think using water is bad? Try using unicorn tears. It's super hard to come by, but man........never a better shave.

If you use water and pump it out of the aquifer and think the waste water goes back in the ground and you lose nothing think again. Most water going back on or in the ground just runs off and away. A tiny percentage gets back in the aquifer and it takes years for it to go back there.

Where I live they are on our case about water conservation but I guess it's OK for the Intel plant to pump up and use a bazillion gallons of water a day to wash off chips.

I had to use a cartridge blade about a month or so ago. I honestly used WAY more watter having to rinse the build-up between those tiny little blades every 10 seconds that I EVER do shaving with a real razor, even figuring all the prep stuff in.

I have read some shavers use a basin of water to conserve, you might try that.

Who would have thought a simple thought would have struck up such wildfire thread! No type of conservation is going to be perfect. You're always using water or corn or plastic or producing a byproduct. If you want to truly be economical, stop living in society. Give up technology...oh and grow a beard. =P

What ever happened to the water cycle we learned about in 3rd grade? No really, that is a serious question...

Also, environmental enthusiasts shouldn't expect people to give up normal hygienic practices for the sake of saving a minuscule amount of water (on the grand scale of things, anyway).

They want you to think that individuals and families are the cause of all the worlds problems and that if everyone would shift to compact fluorescents the world will be saved. Big industry is the problem and will always be the problem with the way that all of us live.

Seriously don't see how making lather or rinsing out the cup afterwards will deplete the water stores. But, I don't understand when people turn the faucet on full blast and let it run continuously 30 minutes during a shave. At the very least, I think you have to admit that's a serious drain on your utility bill.

I saw that episode it was great they showed how a Ferrari at highway speed actually got better fuel mileage than the prius.
