Default I am trying it again.

Well after a long break from trying to sharpen and maintain my own razors I think i am ready to try again. I have been a straight razor shaver for years but usually depend on a shavete or feather razor to get the job.
After trying to find all my limited supplies the only thing i needed to buy was a piece of leather as I cant remember which of my strops have which compounds on them.
I have been able to get 3 of my razors to what i believe is a shave ready edge( they all pass the HHT test ) with my very minimalist gear. But i guess i wont know till i shave with them tonight wish me luck

The odd shaped stone is a couticle fragment and the other 2 are pocket sharpening stones from Lee valley tools. i think they are 1000 and 6000 grit king stones :

    Some very fine looking blades!
I hope the shave goes well

It is such a satisfaction being able to get the razors honed properly by your own effort!
Do report back on how it all went

    good luck!

I have had a lot of luck with a diamond pocket hone (about 600 grit), a Boss barber hone and my 'cheap' leather strop. Not super, ultra sharp, but they do shave. And, it does take time, patience and a willingness to try, then test it out.

I have started shaving with a 'dull' razor many times now and had to finish with a second and sometimes a third one, then take the first ones back to my hone and try again. Pay attention to everything as you go; what you see, what you feel and what you hear. Somewhere in there you will find something that works. I have also found that each razor was different. Some of them were similar, but all were different. One of them took an especially long time to get it sharp and it actually surprised me when it worked. I think this one taught me the most.

    Have fun!

Well, I tried shaving with them and they pulled slightly more then my Feather artist club but not to much more. Not sure if it is technique or the sharpness. I dont think i would have used them for an ATG shave but all in all it was pretty good
