Thanked: 0another first shave story
well my razors arrived yesterday after being restored and sharpened by a member on here -sboness- i've been itching to try shaving with a straightrazor and full of trepidation at the same time, i had read all the beginners guides and fully intended following them, shaving easy bits until i was comfortable and building on that over a period of shaves.
i basically ended up doing my whole face, i did my left side from the sideburn down, then the right side,i felt quite comfortable so i just continued,it did take me a long time though!,especially the tricky areas! and the tricky areas wern't as close of a shave as the easy areas
it was both easier and harder than i was expecting, the actual shaving was ok,i didn't nick myself whilst making the strokes, the nicks i did get were from being careless whilst moving the razor from 1 area to another, all minor nicks though!
so i'm quite happy with that, still need heaps of practise before i'm proficient but not a bad start!

That sounds like a great start.
Keep at it and you will see small improvements regularly.
The odd setback is also to be expected, all part of the learning curve
Take extra care in prepping your beard, focus on good stropping technique, and use zero pressure.
You'll get those fantastic straight shaves before you know it!
Good luck, and keep us posted on your progression.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Any first shave that doesn't make you think of quitting is a good start. Don't expect perfection or BBS shaves until you have quite a few shaves under your belt and develop the understanding of your whisker growth and improved technique that will move you in the right direction.
When you took the training wheels off your bike, you weren't immediately an expert bike rider. It's the same with straight razors. It takes time, practice, and experience, but it does eventually come. The only way to improve is by making mistakes and learning from them as you go.

Congrats and welcome to the club. My first shave took me forver and a day, with less than optimal results on the neck. My cheeks however came out nice, so that's what brought me back to repeat shaves. I'm only 6 shaves in and am thoroughly enjoying myself. I wish you the best of luck and continued success.
I'm a sucker for a stamped tail. Giggity.

Martin, Big, Big 'Grats.
I'll be amazed if your next 7-10 shaves don't have you laughing at disposables and then DEs. The best shaves of your life are very near. I can add nothing to what's been said, but you're doing way better than I did. I predict a torrid romance w/ some nice blades.
Keep going. it gets better, and your start was great.
