Welcome to SRP. I think you've done some good research and made an excellent selection of vendor and razor kit.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I wouldn´t worry about Straight Razor Designs, it´s run by the self same man who runs this site. I´ve never used it because i´m in the uk, but the US guys have nothing but enthusiastic man crushes ( )for lynn

Thanked: 5Welcome. I'm a fellow beginner to straight razors (been DE shaving for a while), and my first straight and strop was from Larry over at whipped dog. He gets vintage razors in shave-ready condition for newbies, and sells them at a very fair price. For just starting out, I'm very pleased with my decision (and Larry's great to work with). With regards to the brush, don't over-pay...you can get yourself a good boar or decent pure badger for $20-30 at most of the well-known/reputable wet shaving online shops (good ones I've worked with are italian barber, west coast shaving, and bulllgoose, to name a few). Soaps...I'm partial right now to the italian soft-soaps like Proraso, Cella and Razorock...great performers for very reasonable prices.

Thanked: 0Great! I am glad I found it. I was almost lured in by the Kreigar or Timber Rattler fancy looking $14.99 razors on ebay until I found this place. The way I sold the idea to my wife is that straight shaving will be "much cheaper" because we won't have to buy $30 worth of blades every other month. Even though I know that it probably won't be any cheaper, and I don't really care. I'm just attracted to the art and elegance of it. Anyway, my point is I need to find something in the lower price range at first, but still good quality, to not set up any red flares with the misses.

It seems you're a kindred spirit with may of us guys here on SRP That's exactly how I approached it with with my wife.
She's wise to the ruse now - kind of hard to hide the 2 strops, 12 razors, 2 badger brushes, untold numbers of soaps, creams, colognes, etc. (and I've only been into this about 1 year). Now she's content to go antique shopping with me - it works for us

Thanked: 0Yeah Linacman, I really appreciate things that take skill and devotion. I make my own beer, draw architectural artwork, and I even just got finished designing my own home that I plan on building this summer on our 10 acres we just purchased. I completely drew the plans and engineering myself. I like to keep things "Old School", which is why I am surprised I haven't started straight shaving before.
I paint my wife out to be a hard case but shes not, hell I some how convinced her to move with me out to the boon docks country away from all our friends and family!Last edited by ncoonis; 04-21-2011 at 05:54 PM.

Straight razor designs is a reputable vendor run by some great guys. There products are very good and they stand by them. When seeking advice from members of this and any other forum value the comments from members with higher post counts more than others. While most people give honest replies for assistance and recommendations the people with high post counts and possibly mentor badges have a greater chance of having a more diverse experience than lower post counts. This is a broad stroking comment and there are exceptions but the exceptions will be validated by others. Good luck with your straight razor and gear hunt.
