Default Hello From The S.F. Bay Area

New to the forums. A neighbor gave me his KB Extra straight razor. It's marked Black Diamond" 166 and it's made in Germany. He told me he has not used it in about 50 years. It has black handle and it seems in pretty good shape. I would like to start shaving with a straight razor and was just wondering if this razor would be a good candidate for a beginner.
At the moment I am using a 60's Gillette with "feather" brand blades and Proraso soap and balm.

A KB Extra is what I learned to shave with. The blade is very flexible, which I found gave me better feedback to adjust angle and pressure. Make sure to get it professionally honed and give the wiki section here a good once over.

Yes Krusius Brothers ( I think you'll see that stamped on opposite side) should be an excellent shaver.

As noted above, send to a pro, such as listed in the classifieds under member services.

Have fun with the learning process. These forums are a great resource to answer all questions as they arise.

    Hello, biogenic:

Welcome to Straight Razor Place. Please make sure you peruse the Wiki for a stack of information on the straight razor world. Beyond that ask questions. Oh, and send the razor out for professional honing. That will give you a good start.

    Regards,

    Obie

Thanks Pops ! Do you send your razors out to be honed and if you do who do you use ? Also, I am looking for strop. Get a new one or a look for a used one ? I've seen some nice old ones on ebay.
