Just picked up Henckels Friodur (looks to be 5/8); looking for hone in MN
I just picked up a J.A. Henckels Friodur inox. It says 701/2 on the blade. Haven't measured it but it is about 5/8 I guess.
The case didn't look so new, but the razor looks brand new to my untrained eye. Doesn't look like it was ever honed (other than at factory). The swing is stiff (almost too stiff).
Anybody in the twin cities know how to hone one of these? It looks like the razor here.

Thanked: 240I'm sure any honemiester will be able to home your razor up properly. Although there is a difference between carbon steel and stainless steel razors it is not a major difference. I own a henckles friodur inox and it pains me to say but it may be my best looking and shaving razor. It pains be because I have spent 2-3 times as much on other razors and do not know if I have seen any better results.

Thanked: 335PM randydance. He can certainly advise and can probably hone the razor if convincingly cajoled.
You're welcome Randy

That is a great razor! It will, once properly honed, deliver fantastic shaves.
Congratulations!Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

The 13/16ths Friodurs are among my favorite razors. Honed correctly, a Friodur is an excellent shaver. Good score!

Thanks guys! I thought it was probably a good deal. I may have to send it in to Lynn to have it honed, if he hasn't lost patience with me. It is such a beauty I almost hate to shave with it, but I am not the type to collect without use.

A quick perusal through the Member services, or of active MN members on the member map, can answer this sort of question quickly and efficiently.

I just got home and compared it. It is smaller than my dovo buffalo 5/8". But then I measured it. It is 5/8". My dovo buffalo 5/8 is almost 3/4". I am so confused now.
Is Randy a honemiester?
P.S. I heard you had to hone a rusty metal file on concrete and then strop on your own skin until it is shaving sharpn, with your eyes closed, while taking live fire from a drill sergeant hurling derogatory insults against your sister and mother, before you were a honemiester?
I just sent Randy an email.Last edited by MikeMN; 04-27-2011 at 11:56 PM.
