    Default Couple weeks in

    Hey all,
After a little over two weeks with a boy (Dovo Shavette), I have arrived at the following, looking for affirmation, cautions, and critiques.

I normally do the following passes in order on my cheeks: WTG, XTG, XTG (reverse direction), and ATG. Some times throwing in some diagonals as touch-ups. No problems here as I have normally get BBS from all directions. WTG seems to have little to no effect, but I always needed to go ATG with my cartridge to have any effect. Not much irritation but my face does itch the next night when I shower as the whiskers really come out 24 hours after the last shave. I need to shave everyday due to growth, but the Shavette keeps it shorter and smoother for much longer.

    Now my Neck:
I have tried to tackle this from many different directions and combos of passes. Day two's shave was really smooth but I paid the price. After my passes I rinsed and just used wet skin to (repeatedly) touch up my neck. However, I am able to get very smooth every way except ATG. Here too I always have had to go ATG with my cartridge. The grain goes from my left ear almost straight to my right ear. I have tried changing the angles, scything, and normally take 5 to 6 passes plus touch ups to get most of tough spots everyday. There is some light irritation but cold water and after shave gel tend to help. One big problem I am noticing is the left over stubble (mostly near the adams apple) seems much sharper now and can get irritating poking the skin. It seems this hair grows parallel to the skin (thus making it harder to cut).

Am I right in trying these:
Try different blades - I have used the Dovo that came with it and CVS.

A real straight will do better as I might be able to angle it better. I am still deciding which to get, I normally go big or go home! I thought about trying to get a small str8 with a smile to tackle the east west growth on my neck. A normal str8 from SRD also for everywhere else.

Angles: Shallower seems better except that the "blade" sticks to the freshly shaved and thus dry skin. When I increase the angle, I hear that scraping sound but does not seem to shave very well. I have gone as much as 80 degrees (directly under my chin) without harm. Could it be possible that the angle of the Shavette blade when shallow is not shallow enough?

    Thanks for the feedback,
One more problem, I can't stop rubbing my face as it is so smooth!

You are doing well with straight shaving. A good BBS shave on day 1 does take 18-24 hours+ to return something to shave the next day, so shaving everyday with a straight razor can provide a challenge to some users like myself whose skin has limits. With two days+ growth, its always 100% with the straight razor and the technique is the same.

Since I work in professional setting environment, some weeks I have to toe the company line and join the beauty contest. For these days, on the day following a BBS shave day, I start with WTG and move toward XTG quickly. Overall, I am working with a WTG pass with a lot of touch up strokes. If I get too aggressive with this shave, the skin gets irritated so I am always using a light touch and using technique over pressure. Sometimes, I like to bring in my DE to use a J Hook movement on those hairs near the Adams apple or just under the Jaw line to save time.

The shavette is generally too flexible of a blade for me. My feather is better, but all my disposable straight razor have fallen out of favor with me and I prefer to use the traditional straight razors. Again, I still use the straight razors for the "heavy lifting" work, but sometimes the DE comes in handy here and there when I feel the straight razors edge just starting to lose that fine edge and time become a premium.

I generally need to shave everyday as well as I work in a chemistry lab that has many tours. Luckily my skin can handle the shaves (so far). It is probably because I worked outside in the sun for over a decade and spent two decades getting my face burned up on a wrestling mat.
    Thanks,

I don't get much out of WTG passes either, but it does reduce the growth for the ATG pass later. I've weaned myself from having to get a BBS shave. When I have to decide between BBS and being comfortable, I go for comfort. I know now that I can get to BBS, but I don't feel like I have to do it. Sometimes I do a one pass ATG shave and let it go at that. BBS is a goal, but the shave is mine, as is the result, and I can have it any way I want it.
