Thread: 1st shave & 1st libation

So, I am still saving together the cash for a strop and scuttle but the rest of the implements of the straight shave have been collected. However for the moment I'm using a disposable straight (leant to me by a kindly barber I got chatting to the other day) until I get the strop and pull out the real deal.

It was all going so beautifully well, after some very tentative strokes I managed to figure out the correct angle and made cautious yet quick work of the cheek area. Emboldened I decided it would be worthwhile to carry on. Again progress was good, the only mistake I made was a misjudgement of how close the blade was to my chin when I went to reposition my hand leaving a very light kiss from the blade across the chin. I was annoyed to have cut myself so foolishly, but undeterred I finished the shave with the straight, though I was very cautious around the neck and ended up having to finish it my regular disposable (G3).

Great experience and I can't wait to finish getting the rest of my kit so I can really start to enjoy using a straight!!

Congratulations on your first shave. The goal of the first shave, in my humble opinion, is to do so little damage that you arrive with hope at the second shave. The shaves will get more effective and comfortable, although it will take some time. Good luck on number 2.

sounds like a great first shave! like ace said, you just want to get used to the blade without damage. Always have to remember that in one hand you have something that can do SERIOUS damage. I had to finish my first straight shave with my mach3 too, but now i'm getting a better shave in my old tough spots then I ever got with my mach3.
