    Default First "successful" shave!

So this is probably my third shave with my new Feather No Sharpen and no cuts! It's not quite bbs yet but I feel that I am making progress. I'm using both hands, though I tend to favor my dominant right hand, and I'm utilizing wtg, xtg, and atg.

I think the best part of straight razor shaving is the lathering. Something about making your own lather appeals to me. Anyone else like that?

I must confess though, I do wish I had read more info on this site before I made my first, and second, attempt. I still have cuts from the first two go arounds, haha.

Congratulations! I like the lather too, but wish it would stay toasty warm for the second and third passes.

    George,
Congrats on your first bloodless SR shave, It's a good feeling. You will find that you will continue to refine you technique and the shaves will become closer and more comfortable.
As for the lather, I also enjoy churning up a good lather, it's all part of the experience.

Question about the lather. It seems that my lather dries up rather quickly after I apply it to my face. Do I need more water or am I shaving too slowly? Seems to stay fine in the bowl though.

I leave my shave mug (old cappucino cup) in my sink with some hot water in it. This keeps the lather warmer for the second and third passes. It means a bit of fiddling about for the blade rinsing but worth it I think.

Congrats on your progress, I used to use a Dovo shavette but found the blade a bit harsh. I just use a straight razor now. Smoother shave and less cuts. I also make my lather in a scuttle. Keeps the lather hot!

Congratulations! I'm a newbie too and made my first attempt with a sr today. I know what you meant about the foam. I really like the lather from a brush and soap. Before my razor and strop arrived I'd been practicing with the brush and soap and along with a nice hot shower before my shave, the quality of my shaves with my disposable razor increased dramatically.
