Thread: First Shave.

After a lot of debate and much calculation I finally bought a straight razor. A Boker King Cutter ($119 off amazon), I liked that it was nickle infused and even though it sounded like a gimmick "It'll stay sharper longer" I was soled. I wanted to be totally self sufficient so I bought a 3' wide strop to go with it and a norton wet stone 4k/8k. After watching every youtube video I could find on honing it (it absolutely did not come sharp from the factory just like everyone said it wouldn't) I honed it myself and stropped it myself (200 passes on 4k, 200 passes on 8k, 100 passes on leather side of strop, 50 passes on cotton side of strop.)......Then the first shave....

It didn't feel good at all, there was so much statics I could barely hear myself think, and hurt. but I think it was my fault, there is plenty of potential and despite the loads of pain, I had fun.

that was last week, sense then, I went back and did the honing process again and tomorrow I'll actually shave after a shower or perhaps maybe even in the shower.

I think.....what I really need is someone who knows what they are doing to hone this for me so I can see what it's suppose to feel like. My hairs are not that thick as I am not a hairy guy, the bristles are relativity not thick at all, so the amazing amount of static I got this first time was very surprising.
