Not slick!
Just wonder this morning I tried to use more water when I made my lather. I made a ton of lather, but when shaving my face just felt wet and not very slick. It stayed on my face and didnt look "wet" and looked to me like a great lather. There was no nicks, cuts or burn so I'm not sure. Any thoughts?

Thanked: 1195Try using slightly less water. If you use just a little too much it will not completely break your lather down (will still look like lather), but as you've noticed the glide performance will be diminished. It's a fine line, for sure.

+1 on Ryan's suggestion. Try a teaspoon of water--no more or less--to start your lather. From there you can add a few drops to increase the amount of water.
Over time, you will determine the amount of water to make your lather, in your specific environment (dry or humid), just right."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Ok thanks for the advise.I'll try experimenting to see what works. I thought it might just be a newbie thing only straight shaving exclusively for just a few weeks.

poppy926,
During the course of building your lather, regularly test the 'slip' of the lather by rubbing a small amount between your thumb and forefinger.
You will then see how the slip builds and diminishes with the amount of added water.
Have fun !
Best regards

thanks commiecat for moving this. And thanks for the advise I will pay more attention to that. I really dont have a problem with the lather drying out.
Thanks Russ, you know I know this and yet it never dawned on me to use that test...DUH...I'll remember next time.

Unless I missed it you didn't say what soap you are using. That can make a huge difference. Whatever it is just experiment with the amount of water you use.

You are correct I did not mention it. It was Truefitt & Hill sandlewood cream.
