i dropped my razor
I am unbelievably pissed thought I learned my lesson when I hit one on the faucet but now I have bent the edge on my new-er razor. I have the free sharpening from SRD but I have no idea if they will be able to fix it let alone how much extra it will cost. this razor was a gift and I cant afford to replace it. anyone have an idea on how much they would charge to straighten out a blade if that's even possible?

Sorry to hear that.
i don't think there is a way you can even bend the straight razor.
it will crack first.
in the other hand there is a way to straighten the blade but it is not recommended.
you could heat it up etc and straighten.
This makes me think you may have small bend on the edge of the blade which could be honed out.
Some of SRP member will do it Free .Try find someone close to you if not i would be gladly do the job FREE.
hope this helps.

Thanked: 3795That can be fixed. I'd start with heavy stropping, which I'd quickly give up on unless it showed any improvement, followed by backhoning on a low grit, and then a bevel reset and regular honing.

I think you dodged a bullet there! It sucks that it happened at all, but most of the blades I've seen that have been dropped are chipped out, not bent...and usually much bigger than that. Do a search on dropped razors and you'll see some razor gore.
E-mail SRD and see what they'll do, then consider Sham's advice (Hi_bud_gl).
Peace,

Thanked: 2Angelo,
I'm a newbie also. I inherited an older straight razor that I honed myself after watching Lynn's video and getting a razor from Larry at whippeddog.com. Lynn's video told me what to do and Larry's shave ready razor told me when to stop doing it.
I've also watched a few other honing videos on youtube that have been helpful. Some of those razors had nicks in the edge that looked worse than yours. I don't think there's any doubt your razor can be honed as good as new. However, I would send it off to Lynn or some of the others to do it. It's going to take a while to get the nick out. These guys have the knowledge and equipment to do that much better and faster than I could. I'm pretty sure you could get an estimate beforehand.
Good luck.
