Bubba! A big hello from Miami, the southern part of the U.S. that's not really concidered the south! Hahaha! Welcome to a life of livin' on the edge! It's great that you're patient. I started out with disposable straights a long time ago before I recently realized there was such a huge community that use the REAL thing! Though I've searched around elsewhere on the internet for opinions (nothing wrong with that), you'll come to notice that over 90% of the things you need to know are right here on srp! I loved the FAQ portion, it was my main guide to help me buy my first straight. However, though I don't have anywhere near the amount of expertese that most of the guys above have under their belt, I wanted to point one thing out. The beginner's guide suggests what your first razor should be like in order to know "where to go from here", so one thing that you may come accross is that they suggest a half-hollow 6/8 razor. After major searching, it looks kind of hard to buy a quality and inexpensive half hollow. It seems like (please others, correct me if I'm wrong) that the demand is in the FULL hollow. Therefore, the most I've seen on the great websites such as classicshaving.com and straightrazordesign.com are many options but lacking decently priced half hollows. Anyway, (long story longer!) in my opinion, a full hollow is still great. So, if you don't find a half hollow like most suggest for beginners, don't go crazy looking for one. I think (my humble opinion) that you'll be fine with a full hollow 6/8 to begin. I hope that with this info, I was able to prevent for you the headaches I got looking for a new half hollow!

Again, welcome, and I hope you love this place as much as I do.

P.S. More experienced shavers, please feel free to disagree, it'll not only help Bubba, but myself also. These opinions were based on my experiences buying my 1st razor.
