    Default first uberlather

my first attempts at uberlather following the video posted on this site turned out awesome. am wondering what makes such the difference, is it the glycerin? i noticed you can use very little cream and only 2 drops of glycerin and about a tablespoon of the soap water and 15 seconds of loading the soap is more then enough. over-flows my mug with lather within seconds.

it is certainly impressive how it forms and i enjoy the preparation but how does it compare longer term to using a quality soap alone? it is still hard for me to quantify qualities of lather like cushion, etc.

Just what happens when you listen to experts. :-). Wooops, saw another question. Uberlather should be smoother than other lather, but soap only can have exceptional glide.

Uber- Schmoober. You don't need a crutch to make great lather if you have quality soap.

spendur is right, you shouldn't need that, BUT. ......

I found that really cool to try. I'm an e-cig user, make my own juice, so I have plenty of glycerin around, both poly and vege. I tried the vege, just a few drops on top of my Omega cake, then used the brush to blend it up.

Friggin works!! All I can say, is. It works!!!

Glycerin is a key ingredient in most water-based "personal lubricants" (Astroglide, etc). It's _really_ slippery, and has higher film strength than soapy water.

So instead of sliding against your skin, the edge of the blade floats on a thin film of glycerin.

I suspect that perfect pure-soap lather, and perfect technique, could do just as well. But the glycerin can hide many sins.

I am using a Jack Black soap and a avena shave cream since i figured both could probably use the help of the other. I am thinking for a very high quality soap perhaps the soap alone is good enough though and I have noticed that while it gives an impressive foam in the cup the uber-lather does not give the same glide as the soap alone.

I ordered a bunch of quality soaps and creams so it would be nice to see how better products perform together or alone.

Today I used TOBS Sandalwood cream, SRD soap sadalwood and 5 gtts glycerin. Love it! also fun to mix things together like almond cream and lime soap etc. Interesting scents and wow does it make awesome shave lather!
I seem to be addicted to Uberlather!!

I used to make uberlather all the time. Then I got Mama Bears soap and I was impressed... then I bought one of Al's bombs. It's uberlather on roids without having to use 3 things. I still mix up a batch from time to time for my wife's legs but that's the only use I have for it these days.
(I dont have anything against it, I just don't often make it for myself these days, I feel like its a big treat for the wife to get it. And maybe for me when her legs are silky smooth)

As an Uberlather Junkie, I always recommend the same recipe as the best I have found to date...

Mitchell's Wool Fat soap + Musgo Real cream + 5 drops of Glycerin = "Lanolin Overload Uberlather" wait till you feel the conditioning number it does to your face after the shave

    Some other notables

TOBS Lavender Soap + Castle Forbes Lavender cream + 5 drops = "Country Garden Uberlather"

SRD Bulgarian Rose soap + H Salter Wild Rose Cream + 5 drops = "Cracklin Rose' Uberlather"

Velobra Almond soft soap + Proraso Red + 5 drops = "Mambo Italiano Uberlather"

Velobra Menthol soft soap + Proraso Green + 5 drops = "Mambo Menthol Uberlather"

HBS Almond soap + C&E Sweet Almond Oil cream (if yer lucky to have it) + 5 drops = "Almondine Uberlather"

Yes I have stupid names for many of them Enjoy
