I would skip ebay and just post in the buy sell trade forum, often you can get a really cheap razor that is in pretty crappy condition. It may never become a great shaver since it needs to be restored, but you can still tell if you are making it more sharp or more dull.

If you want something that will one day be a real shaver, just ask for something that is in good condition, there are plenty of members here that will help you out for less money than you would expect.

About $15 ($10 + $5) including shipping on Ebay. Try and get a good razor that no one else wants. These can usually be had by searching for staight razor (yes thats staight without the r) or straigh razor (without the t). No one will bid against you because no one is dumb enough to search for it wrong, but there are plenty of idiots who sell stuff with the wrong title! Check out the how to buy a razor, one of Bill (urleebird?)'s posts, you want to shoot for a razor that you might be able to test shave, not a piece of cheap junk. But I think more than $20 would be over the top for a practice razor. The BEST razors I've ever owned cost less than $20 on Ebay, including shipping.

I have to agree with AF. A cheapee on ebay which is in generally good shape at the edge but maybe has some pitting or corrosion on the blade or bad staining. For 20 or so you should be able to get one and after your finished practicing your honing you can then pratice on restoration and wind up with a fine looking and shaving razor.

You can even get a near-mint cheapie for under $10, if it's an unknown name. That's how I got one of the top 3 in my rotation. Had almost no hone wear. Just look around until you find something good.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll be getting the Wostenholm from Lynn, on the user galleries, and I'll be looking for a cheapie on ebay or using the buy and sell forum.
I'm gonna get my strop from thewellshavedgentleman.com.

    Thanks again guys!

A Wostenholm razor is very good choice, as well as Tony's Heirloom Strops.
