Help! My First Razor... Where can i get it honed in Perth, Western Australia?
First of all, Hi to everyone!
Well... After a little research I have purchased my first straight razor and strop although i think i need to get my nice new razor professionally honed!
Its a Dovo 5/8, just a basic one. Out of the packet it was sharp although it wouldn't cut through hair at all, i have since ran it over the strop and now it will cut... just... with a lot of pulling.
So from what i have read on the forums even though most new razors come "shave ready" they aren't really and require professional honing.
If anyone knows where i can take it to get honed in perth it would be greatly appreciated, and if not in Perth maybe somewhere i can post it to get honed in Australia.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

I would contact Oz (onimaru55 on SRP) by PM and have him hone it.
I'm not sure where he's based in Australia but he can definitely hone!
That way you won't have to send it out of the country.

+1 to Stu and Mick's comments to send it to Oz. I have heard he does a great job.

Thanks for all the replies!
I ended up finding someone in Perth who does honing although he charges a fortune! $80!
Anyway i decided to let him rob me of my $80 as he is also going to give me some assistance with the gear and maintenance. Next time i will send it through onimaru55 if he is still around.
If anyone here is in Perth and has been looking for a place to get it honed or advice, "Mr Shaver" in the Piccadilly arcade between Hay and Murray street will do it.. They don't seem to happy about you bringing in internet purchased or products in general that weren't purchased through them. "Quote: If you have have purchased it through us you wouldn't have had this problem now would you!"
Again thanks for the replies!

A great reason not to frequent their establishment, eh, if that is their attitude.

Thanked: 3795The only way I would pay $80 for a honing is if it came with two happy endings.
