Thanked: 2Honing sort of
Hi yall, i purchased a couple of razors from ebay, A kropp, and a thomas turner, both look hollow ground ( the turner says so on the blade).
I bought them to practice honing and stropping.
today i tried a whet stone and both blades took an edge, and were almost sharp enough to shave with.
This time i used a whet stone for a chisel ( remember this was an experiment) maybe 1000 grit if that,
I have a strop arriving when i get to the post office to collect it,
Do i redo on a 10-12k stone then strop or do i just try the strop, ( what is a barber's hone)
Neither blade is for shaving yet, i have bought one from invisible edge.
all blades sheffield made from circ 1900-1920.
any advice appreciated.

Thanked: 1262you want something in the 4k range and 8k range also. One you get above 8k you are into finishing stones and it is all personal preference on what hones to get, if any.

Thanked: 2Having read many posts that was what i believed to be correct, will using the finer whet stone help fetch the blade up to shave level? what about strop paste etc.
