Opinions requested on my new blades
Hello fellow members,
I'm new to the site and to collecting razors. I purchased my first two razors via e-bay from an estate liquidator(I think). Even thought it is not my first time with a straight blade they are the first actual one piece razors I own, meaning that my previous experience was with a very inexpensive two piece razor that uses half blade from a double edge safety razor. It was aquired during my college years to trim my beard. Recently retired from the Navy and able to sport a beard again decided to dust off the old razor for beard trimming and experiment on collecting a few actual fixed blades.
The two razors, according to the seller were old stock out of an old barbershop and apparently never used. The first one is a Soligen made Amboss Mann #60 farely wide blade with a cobalt blue handle and according to my limited knowledge in pristine condition. The second one is an ED Wusthof Barber King #377 5/8 stainless steel also from Soligen. The later one to my dismay has several ondulations on the edge,(It resembles the belly fin of a clown knife fish if you've seen one)
Can it be straightened? Who will be the authority on this kind of repair? Is it expensive to have this work done? I already invested $93.00 on it, seems it will end up costing more than its worth. The Amboss Mann I got for 120.00 is it too much for such a razor? The insights from you veteran collectors will be very appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome to the SRP.
If you could provide some pictures or the item numbers if you did get them on ebay.I have Wusthof cutlery knives and had the
idea of bidding on a Wusthof razor recently. The sad thing is that it went way over my modest budget. They do seem to be highly collectable, but I have no idea how they shave.

Here are the item Numbers
The Wusthof is under item# 140013757472 and the Amboss Mann #140013757469. Have you heard about the Amboss Mann brand? Any ideas on the possibility of having the edge on the Wusthof fixed?
Ricardo.

The Wusthoff was indeed the razor I had on my watch list. With it's famous name (more a novelty than anything) I would have paid in the $30-$40 range. Now understand that dollar amount only applies to me and what I felt it was worth. When you see NOS German made razors going for $50-$80 on ebay, I wouldn't have wanted to pay any more than that. The Wusthoff pictures were not the best and I think I would have requested better ones if I was to pay more. Now granted this razor may be very close to NOS. There doesn't appear to be any hone wear. There are some marks on the blade that should polish out. You will have to be carefull as not to get into the painted area. This is why I was surprised the razor went this high. If you have to be aggressive to get those marks out, you risk the chance of damaging the etched area.
Stainless blades are not easy to hone, but once keen should make a fine shaver.
As for the Amboss Mann razor, there was only one picture working and it only shown the scales. I would only suggest you and Cowdog47 try to find different razors to bid on.

The reason it went that high is because I didnt knew better, it wouldn't be so bad if the blade wasn't so dinged. Now is time to decide if it is worth the money to have it repaired.

If you want to send it to me and I will do my very best to turn this razor into a daily shaver. Just provide money for return shipping. I think you have paid enough for this razor and hopefully hanging around the SRP you will learn more about what razors are worth. This razor may still be worth that much to some but IMHO it did get a little out of hand.

That WUSTHOF DREIZACKWERK STRAIGHT RAZOR is a very pretty one though...
I like the german made ones, and I hope to collect some myself.
