Putting a guilt trip on her seems small potatoes by comparison with homicide, and if she is a fair-minded woman, worrying about that is probably a bit like shoving a horse through the stable door after it is bolted, or something. She must feel pretty bad already.
Psychiatric opinion is that you aren't suffering from the illness of clinical depression when you actually do have something to be depressed about. No doubt the same applies to guilt.Last edited by Caledonian; 06-22-2011 at 07:22 AM.

I have noticed a lot of good will on this site, and I have learned a lot from reading posts and the wiki. pm me your address and i can mail you a w.h. morley and sons rattler that could be made to shave again with little work, or from the looks of it an easy restore. some hone wear, but every one here says that just means it was a good shaver.

Thanked: 0sorry to hear of your hardships. i had kind of a similar experience with less expensive razors. i bought a house and started moving things and found my razors with chipped blades and cracked scales. but on the down side i do not have sweet man cave space.

Thanked: 1The lesson here is if something is much more important to you than anyone else, do it yourself - if you're not prepared to accept all the consequences of a decision, don't make it!
Commendation on keeping it together and not going ballistic on your wife, that's a big win in the circumstances.

Your story made me sick in the pit of my stomach. My condolences. I really am "sorry for your loss." I am both amazed and inspired by your reaction to this tragedy. You are handling it much better than I would. When I have problems, one of my close friends constantly reminds me to ask myself, "Twenty years from now, will this really matter?"
In the long view, it is only things and your relationship with your wife is more important than material possessions (But, I do wonder what her attitude would have been if the situation was reversed and it was her crushed jewelry on the highway because of you).
I hope you can find an 8/8 Filarmonica and a W&B wedge during this coming year at a good price. I know all of us will be thinking good thoughts your way.
Just to make me feel better, I would post a "To Do" list on the bathroom mirror and then checkoff the items.
TO DO:
1. Buy 8/8 Filarmonica
2. Buy Wade and Butcher Wedge
3. Buy a Simpson Silvertip Brush
4. Buy a Thiers-Issard 7-day Razor Box
5. Commission one new razor from (?)
6. Etc.
I hope you enjoy the new house and I hope things only get better from this point on.
