Default New user, looking for some advice in finding a local store

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for contributing to this website. I've learned a great deal reading the information here and I think I'm ready to pick out my first straight razor. The only problem is I'm the kind of person who really likes to feel a product before I purchase it, especially when it is a piece of highly sharpened steel that I'm going to be drawing across my face. I'm currently living in Bonn, Germany, only about an hour away from Solingen so I was hoping to find a shop where I can go and speak with someone who knows what they're doing and feel various razors. Could anyone offer some advice for finding a store that I can visit in the Bonn area? It would also be relatively easy for me to take a train up to Cologne or Solingen.

    Thanks!

    - Ben

is it worth looking into seeing if any of the razor workshops have factory shops in them?

places that sell straight razors physically in a store are very rare, certainly in the uk. non existant in fact.

Hence why i say it might be worth checking out the solingen workshops? more likely to be sold there than anywhere

If I had the chance to go to Solingen I would be there by now!

Revisor in Solingen is one of the vendors here. If I were you I would send them an e-mail.

Thanks for the advice. I just emailed Revisor, Dovo, Dorko and Puma. We'll see if they have stores that I can visit. I'll let everyone know what I find out. Are there any other manufacturers in Solingen that I missed?

Ah! Just emailed Wacker, they make some gorgeous looking razors and interestingly enough have an auto-reply for emails... we'll see what happens.

Boker is the only rasiermesser in Solingen that has a factory store on their website. (Böker bietet Taschenmesser und Küchenmesser.)

By the way, if anyone wants me to pick up a particular razor for them from one of the factories when I go to Solingen to bring back to the States when I return in August, I would be more than happy to help.

Puma still sells a few through their website. No idea about the quality though. *shrug* PUMA razors
