Thanked: 1First shave was bloodless
Got home from an out of town wedding last night and the "vintage" razor I had purchased from HNSB's "Straight Razors for sale" website was waiting for me. Along with the strop, and VDH brush, soap & mug kit I had bought elsewhere.
Braided a cord to be able to fasten my strop to the door knob in the bathroom, stropped the blade and put a hot wet towel on my face for 15 seconds or so. Built up a good lather and commenced with my first str8 razor shave.
I'm sure I can improve my technique, but the whiskers are gone, and no vital fluids leaked out of my ugly mug

I don't think that you could do any better than that! You seem happy, comfortable and whisker free. On top of that, ready to shave again.
Congratulations.

Thanked: 1Now I just need to get my grandfather's old razor sharpened and I'll be ready to finish my quest of shaving with my family heirloom razor. (Plus I need to see what it will take to get his new Boker from my dad and get IT into shaving shape as well)

Sweet! That sounds like a great start. Better than most of us had, for sure!! LOL.
How cool is that to shave with your granddads razor. I would have liked to have had something like that from my granddad. Cherish that s**t man. That's priceless!!
Good luck!!
M-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Thanked: 1Thanks MJ, I'm still trying to get my heirloom razor back into shaving condition. You can read more of its history and see some pics of it in this thread http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...pic-heavy.html

First time out with a straight results in a bloodless shave?
That's not a proper way for a Newbie to behave.
No nicks, no weepers, no razor burn, not at all?
I think, dear sir, you're being set up for a fall.
You have created a debt you now owe to the God of Blood.
So now get out your blade and clean off all the crud.
Hone it, strop it, give your face a good prep and get ready to go.
You have to slash your face to be a Newbie, trust me, I know.

Thanked: 1Ace I paid quite a bit on that debt many years ago when, in the foolishness of youth, I decided to see if I could get a pocket knife sharp enough to shave with. I succeeded in removing some whiskers, but it wasn't pretty.
Having spent the majority of my life looking for the "perfect" edge on knives and other cutting implements, I'm no stranger to sharp implements (and have the scars to prove it)
