It wasn't sold as "shave ready" it was an estate purchase. It was just in great shape when I got it all I did was strop it up a bit. I did read up a little more on stropping because I am used to stropping my carving knifes and chisels and found I was using too much pressure. I spent a while last night working on my technique with a lot softer touch and got it to pass the HHT. I will try shaving with it again this weekend and give you an update. Hopefully it won't be like mowing the yard again!

Ah this may be the problem. We have no idea if it is actually shave ready. Just because its from someones collection doesn't mean you can shave with it. HHT though cool, doesn't tell you if the blade is shave ready. The only true test is to shave. But since you are new at straight shaving your technique will be far from perfect to judge this. Try runing the blade across your arm hairs and see if it makes them 'pop' off the entire lenth of the blade. If so I'd attempt shaving with it. Work in small areas is small short strokes. 1 newb to another

I worked on my lather a little and tried out my restored Wade & Butcher (just on my cheeks for now) and thanks to everyone's tips the results were much better!
Close shave, no burn thanks everyone! I think the leading cause of my problem was my lather and my angle. I will stick to my cheeks for now and practice more.
