Razor time.
Hello,
This question has probably been answered a number of times but I was just wondering what the minimum time span between shaves with the same razor was?
I have read or heard that within a 24 hour period after shaving with the razor it needs time for the edge to adjust itself, so does that mean I can next shave again on the 24 hour mark with the same razor or is it best to leave longer than this?
Thanks.Last edited by planetocean; 07-10-2011 at 08:41 AM.

That theory is basically just a myth.
Shave with your razor when you need or want a shave.
Stropping takes care of aligning the micro-teeth on you edge.
Make sure you give your razor a good stropping and you'll be fine.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 1936It is a high carbon steel instrument...it doesn't need to "rest". I believe that was some sort of marketing stuff many years ago. If your beard grows fast, shave it. This is a good excuse to use when telling the wife you "need" another razor though...as long as you don't mind bending the truth.

The leather in your strop, however, is highly sensitive and if it receives too many laps too quickly it will deteriorate rapidly. One needs at least two, preferably three strops...

Thanks for your answers,
This must be quite a large widespread urban legend then as I too have heard it on YouTube and even read it in a number of places, so I guess I should not believe everything I hear or read.
I was on the verge of contemplating buying my second razor immediately after buying my first for this reason. Therefore your answers have someone burst my bubble a bit as I was looking forward to searching another new razor out, but I think I will do this anyway as I don’t want to go into withdrawal.Last edited by planetocean; 07-10-2011 at 12:07 PM.

I have read the same thing, planetocean, and asked the same question.
I would suggest that the myth was started by people selling razors in an attempt to double their sales.
It is, however, a great thing to tell SWMBO when RAD kicks in and she asks why you need more razors.
As someone once said, you need 365 razors - one for each day of the year - so they have time to rest between shaves FWIW
