I wear these marvellous things called multi-focal contact lenses that I can keep in for days/weeks without any issues.
They are the latest ones available and they are great!!
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

I do the sideburn and upper cheek area without the glasses and then put the glasses on for the lower cheeks, chin, neck, etc. That way only the larger flatter areas are done without being able to see well.

Default mirror mirror on the wall....

I have the same problem with being near-sighted; the mirror on the wall was too far away for me to see clearly, a few nicks and cuts later, I installed an adjustable mirror like the one pictured below. Now I can see myself and the wifey can use it for her makeup.

The straight razor shaver faces various blind spots. It is helpful, therefore, to develop a measure of skill to shave by feel. Even though I wear glasses all the time, I chose to shave without them, because they get in the way. With or without glasses, however, I never forget how sassy the blade is, and that it will bite the moment my mind drifts.

i bumped my straight on the mirror. Thank god it was with the scales and not with the edge.
Result my first cut in my face.
but rather have a cut in my face then a chip in my SR. How do you gents solve this problem? contact lenzes or a magnifying mirror or???
I shave before I put on my contacts and I have a swing out mirror that allows me to see up close and not impede my shaving. I tried with my contacts in, but the problem is that my left contact is for distance and the right is for close up.

Have you tried a magnified mirror?

Glad your edge didn't cut you, not so much preserving your razor's edge, but rather you not getting seriously hurt. Bad enough the scales cut you. Hope you are fairing fine now.

I use one similar to that except it's oval. It allows me to look close up and I can shave without my glasses or contacts.

Let me just say, that you don't need to be a blind old bastard to do what you did. I don't wear any sight aids at all, and I've still done that whole mirror bumping trick. I use a mirror more often than not, but I have also done away with the mirror when I'm out bush or at least when it proves to be too much of a hassle out bush anyway. I can get just as good a shave, but it takes a little longer shaving 'blind'.

this was my main problem when I just started, my eyes pretty bad, impossible to shave without glasses, n contact lenses aren't comfy. I had to stick my face right on the mirror everytime I shave. but I guess it all matters of time, now its easy to shave some blind spot above my neck n under my jaw which I thought was impossible bfore

This is what I do also, I just put on my glasses to check after the shave.

My father is a "blind old bastard" and shaves everyday. All kidding aside, he is blind, not a bastard and does shave. He checks by feel and then my Mom gives a look just in case he missed a spot.
