Well Hello!
Hi fellas,
First post and wanted to say hello to all the straight users.
I have just recieved my first SR purchased from Mensbiz in the mail and can't wait to get into it, been shaving with the carts for years.
I have been reading up on straights for some time as it just seems like a wonderful way to shave, taking the technology out of a shave and re-introducing skill
Regarding Honing, i will be learning how to do this myself, after, of course, firstly learning how to shave and strop efficiently. So in the meantime, is there any SRP honers in the Sydney area that can keep my blade at tip top until i "hone" my own skills?
I have already popped my head into a few barbers and knife sharpening places to source a hone for my first few, with all of them declining due to the risk of a heavy fine...
A google search of honing in Sydney actually brought me to this site.
That being said, any tips that you feel are something you are sure to tell your child for thier first shave, feel free to post ém. Because no matter how much you can read about a subject, it all comes down to experience.
Thanks Chaps, I'm sure you will see me lurking around here for a time yet!

Hi and welcome!
You sure needs to get your razor honed before you use it. There's quite a few Aussies here I think, so you'll be pointed in the right direction soon I'm sure.

Thanked: 1936Here in the member services ads: Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
We are glad to have you and it's great that you have read a bit...learning to shave and strop first. Thank you! None of this stuff is really that hard or rocket science, it's just a learned skill. There are several veteran straight users "down-under", you should try to look one of them up.Last edited by ScottGoodman; 08-08-2011 at 01:35 PM.

I had occasion to buy a Heljestrand 6 from "kajinoz" (lives in Australia) on eBay. He did a superb job on the honing and sent me a list of exactly how he had honed the razor. It has become one of my favorite razors. You might look him up on eBay and see if he does honing for hire. He is very good.

Hi Doc,
Welcome to SRP.
I hope you enjoy the ride.
The only honer (?) I have heard of in the Sydney area is onimaru55
He posts regularly in the forums and also advertises in the classifieds AFAIK.
From what I have read he really knows his stuff.
I hope this helps
GeoffHang on and enjoy the ride...

Welcome to SRP Doc & thanx for the kind words guys.
