c12k (that's what they called) is a slow cutter, kinda boring for some people but they really do give a fine result. I really like finishing on that stone. most of the time I finish on c12k to linen & leather without paste strop. its a matter of personal preference. later on You'll see what what you like

Thank you for your advice.I think I should just save for a while and get one of the stones that you mentioned.I will use my ebay stone for the lawnmower or as a doorstop.
Thanks and best wishes.

Thanked: 13245If you go to Youtube and type "gssixgun" and "honing" in the search box you will find a couple of videos of what Lynn and I call "One Stone Honing"
it means you can hone with just one stone AFTER the bevel is set...
I have tried it with two of the least expensive stones on the market the King 1k and the Chinese PHIG.. it can be done and it can be done quite quickly "Once you learn how" in fact it has been used on near every finish stone out there that is capable of producing a slurry...
The only downside of this is it sometimes require you to go back and tweak the edge a bit, the system works the first time through at about 70%-80% no problem for somebody only honing for themselves.
I don't know what you can buy these stones for in the UK but on this side of the pond they will run maybe $50-$60 for both
ps: Many people use wet-r-dry sandpaper to set the bevel I have not tried this with the one stone honing, I would think the striations might be a bit deep to smooth out with just a finisher but I don't know for sure..
