My first razor and results!
I just received this razor in the mail today from Don (donjcschilde). I was like a kid opening a present on Christmas morning! I couldn't wait to try it out. I was blown away by how nice it looks. It was more than I was expecting to have for my first razor.
All in all for my first shave I think I did well. I started out with a hot shower and then worked up a lather with C. O. Bigelow Cream and went at it. I did a WTG easily and no nicks just had to remember it was beard reduction not elimination. I decided to lather up again and do another pass and went XTG and again no nicks or irritation. Feeling brave now I lathered and started to do an ATG but got one stroke into it and stopped. I am not there yet so I just did another XTG on a slightly different angle across my face just to clean up some the rough spots. Almost as good as my Mach 3 was giving me until I found SRP and started to prep my face better and a lot less irritation and burning.
I have been converted to the straight razor!

McBrautigam,
Well done
For me the ATG just dropped into place very suddenly one day; I had been trying for a week or so with no luck, then zap - it fell into place and all was well Most odd !!
Good luck !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

I think good ATG passes come later in the learning process largely because as we learn we get better at reducing whiskers in the previous passes. That gives the ATG pass a chance to work better.

I did try ATG this morning and it went okay. I couldn't help myself and had to try. I completely agree that a good pass will come later once I get more accustomed to it. I have a few nice and tender spots on my face now that will prove that. The next shave will be better!

Thanked: 17Congrats. That is a beautiful razor and the round point is absolutely the way to go for a first straight. Ask me about the cut in front of my ear trying to heal now. LOL
Congrats also on the first straight shave. It's all a matter of getting the feel. You'll be doing it all soon enough.
One thing I enjoy is using a razor that is over 80 years old and knowing I can pass it on to my grandkids as well.
