    Default my face

How will I know the direction my facial hair grows in ? I have been reading alot of the articles and they all say you will get to know your face, but I don't recall reading anything on how they got to know their face.

Haven't made my first shave yet, but was just curious. Pickin up my razor from the honemeister Friday. can barely contain myself.

    thanks in advance

    Tones,

Let your beard grow for a couple of days, then use your fingers and/or a small ball of cotton wool to find the direction of growth (the most resistance is felt when going against the direction of growth). It is well worth making a sketch, or use a template that can be found on the Interweb.

Most people seem to have some unusual growth pattern on the neck & throat - I certainly do !!

    Have fun !

You can also just lather up your face before you shave and feel with your hand for the direction the whiskers are growing in. When they feel the most prickly and give the most resistance, that's the direction in which they are growing.

I agree with Ace. In addition, you can make a couple passes on your face and then rub in a circle where you just shaved to get an idea of the resistant direction.

Faceturbate. Google the site for it. Lots of people do it. There is no shame.

I like the cotton ball idea too.

I tried the cotton ball method but wound up looking like Santa Claus.

I tried searching for "faceturbate" on google and even though I found another forum that talks about it, no one describes what it is. Then I found the urban dictionary and I'm pretty sure that is not the correct definition that you're describing. So please, what does it mean to faceturbate?

Google it within the site here. It means to play with your face and feel how smooth your shave was, or to play with your face to map the grains.

Personally I found it easiest to do a standard WTG pass, then wash my face off and feel where there was still roughness. Once I had been shaving with a straight for about a week or so, I was able to get a close shave on most of my face. Once you can get a decent shave from one pass, you'll be able to feel the rough spots and can start figuring out a different passes that will eliminate each area. Once I was getting decent shaves, I was able to feel that there was still stubble along my jawline all going from left to right. Now I do one WTG pass, one XTG pass, and touch up the jawline in a XTG pass going the other direction. I would say that it's difficult to figure out the direction of your beard growth without shaving, then feeling around, shaving, then feeling around, etc. After enough practice you'll know which areas you can cover in one pass, which areas need multiple passes, and which areas need a bit of a pass in a different direction.

If you shave over a particular area, repeatedly, and fail to ever get really close, you are not shaving in the correct direction.

faceturbation does not deserve an explanation . . .
