Thanked: 4Quitting after two weeks in.
I am tossing in the towel. I just don't have the time to play with these razors.(I have too many Hobbies) I'll keep the Four Dovo's in my Shaving Den for an occasional use, but I'm back to SE and the Gem 1912.
My tough beard is dulling these Razors in just a few uses. Learning Stropping and Honing is something I just don't have time for and mailing Razors out for honing is a hassle.
I had fun while my Blades were sharp ! Its a shame they are so difficult to keep that way.
Look for my Norton Stones on the classifieds. They will be unused.

Shaving this morning took 6 minutes. Stropping this afternoon will probably take 3 minutes. I think I've spent more time buying the darn things that shaving with them and maintaining them.

The GEM single edge razors give some mighty fine shaves. Enjoy. Remember, this activity is meant to be fun and learning to keep your straight edge razors shave ready often entails a long learning curve. It took me a good many years and I'm still learning every day.

You have to do what you have to do but as you gain experience with straight you will learn better technique and they will stay sharper longer. I would urge you to stick with it but if you don't feel it's worth it to master the skills it may be better to go back to SE or DE.

Someone on the honing section of this forum asked me if I had hobbies and it dawned on me that I have way too many ! This one (Straight Razors) will have to be put to the side before it goes too far.
Fun stuff all, I had a great time. I will pull them out from time to time, but its time for me to prune my hobbies down.

Well looks like you got all the right equipment but watching your video you say its your first shave with a straight and right of the bat going against the grain, start over reading the wiki for newbies, and little by little it will all feel comfortable to you.
A shave ready razor with good stropping will keep an edge for a long time dont give up!! because in a little while you will look forward to shave and the feeling you will get will be amazing!!

Straight shaving is not for most. You have to make a commitment and two weeks is just unrealistic to expect real results. It's not your beard that is dulling the blade it was never shave ready from the start.
Good luck in your endeavors if you change your mind we will still be here.

Do not sell your gear, you will regret it down the road. You IMO should not look at shaving as a chore, like good sex,you have to dedicate a time alottment for it.
