Thread: Newbie + First shave

Hey all, another newbie here. I got my first straight razor a week ago, (a Dovo from AOS) and was impatient to start, but decided to do some more research on technique and proper preparation. I did a little research, and then decided to give it a shot on Tuesday. I showered, lathered up, and began some WTG strokes, and I could not take ANY hair off! Needless to say, I was disappointed in myself for rushing the process and not learning proper techniques.

I found this website after that failed shave and I have been doing research on here every day since then. I just completed what I will call my first "real shave". It was incredible. Just through the tips on here I was able to get a great lather, and I was actually so comfortable with technique and the feel of my razor that I lathered up all three times and went in all 3 directions with amazing results and no pain, just a wonderful, relaxed shave.

I wanted to thank everyone on here for the awesome tips. I owe the success of my first shave to everyone who posts videos and tips. I could not have done it without you guys you are all awesome. I will never go back to my electric razor, I love the Dovo. I will be sure to come to you guys with any questions or problems I will face as I start shaving regularly, and I will post my progress as it comes.

Congratulations on your first "real" shave. Take it slow and easy and the technique will become natural before you know it.
