I think I definitely fall under that category. I think that the pressure I am applying in my ATG strokes is too high, causing the irritation on my neck and jaw. I suspect it may also be too steep an angle. It is really hard for me to apply effective ATG strokes on my neck, and easy on my cheeks. Probably just need to practice more and go slower and pay attention to the angle and pressure on my neck.

So today was my first day shaving consecutively after a previous day of shaving. It went well, my face is smooth and no nicks or irritations. However, with the obviously shorter hair, (one day of growth) I noticed barely any hair removal on my WTG passes, and then complete hair removal on my ATG passes. Is this due to my WTG technique or does shorter hair just not remove as easily when shaving WTG?
I understand that straight shaving is based on beard reduction with each pass, but I was confused when I didnt come as close WTG as when I had 3 days of growth. Maybe it is the way my hair lies on my face, but I was hoping someone could chime in with their experiences and differences when shaving shorter hair.

if not sharp enough I recommend a pasted strop or a hone. Personally I would choose the latter.

I am looking at buying a hone, but there is one concern that I have. I only have one razor at the moment and I really do not want to do any damage to it. I want to learn how to hone but I am nervous about the potential damage I could do to my only razor. Is that a legitimate concern and maybe I should wait until I can practice on another, or should I just bite the bullet and give it a shot? How much damage can an inexperienced honer do to a blade?

I started out every 2 to 3 days shaving. Now I shave religiously..... pretty rare that I miss a shave.

Thanked: 14It really depends on your skin. I seldom have any irritation from my shaves (alum doesn't sting at all when used afterwards), but I cannot shave daily. Even just lathering up the next day irritates my face.

Thanked: 94Man what Alum are you using! Even when I dont have any nick's or weeper's that stuff lights my face up! I like it, and it does great at eliminating razor burn, but it is not the tame kitty that you are speaking of, mine is dragon fire! lol goes great after a mentholated shave though, kinda fire and ice type thing
