Thanked: 0Dovo synthetic?
Saw this product on amazon. Haven't found any reviews for it anywhere (except the two on the page itself). Doesn't exist in SRP's razor DB either.
Amazon.com: Dovo Synthetic White Folding Straight Razor DV100587: Sports & Outdoors
Does anyone know about this product?
Thank you.

Thanked: 4942What is your question? This is a basic Dovo Best Quality 5/8 in a white handle.

That appears to be your run of the mill Dovo Best Quality. The synthetic element are the plastic scales.

Thanked: 9Theseus
What you are calling a run of the mill razor is a good, reliable, is my daily razor ,can give ya a close BBS if you let Lynn hone it and take proper care of it! I try others now and then , but is always my go-to razor, Thanks to Lynn! It is a great quality product for the money.

By using the words run of the mill I was in no way saying that the Dovo was not a high quality instrument. It was being used to describe it as a base model razor. No fancy bone scales, no gold wash, no worked spine, etc... I have a Best Quality honed by Lynn and it is indeed a wonderful shaver. In fact I just shaved with it today(check SOTD). Once again, great razor but it is still a base Dovo.

Thanked: 9I shaved this morning also with my Dovo base 5/8 Blond. It holds the edge well for the money. I also have a Dovo Bismark, but I still go back to the base Dovo ! At least we are on the same page.

Yep... I have a couple of these not too shabby a shaver....
Dovo Best Quality 5/8 in a white handle.
Dovo makes many razors some are scaled in bone
some in horn, some in wood. The plastic scales
are very serviceable but are much less expensive....
They might look like ivory which is illegal to sell. The
seller might have been scolded by Amazon if they referred to
the scales as ivory (the color) in the past.
The listed price looks like a good price but
do compare with "shave ready" professional
honed razors. The factory edge from Dovo is
tolerable but not at the same level as a professionally
honed edge.
One of the make it break it aspects to
open razor shaving is a quality smooth and sharp
edge. A dull edge and your face and you will hate the
razor. Yes, It is possible to take a chance and shave with
the factory edge then send the razor out in a month or two
for a tune up.
A beginner is often advised to get a "shave ready" professionally
sharpened edge at least once perhaps twice as they learn.
At about $20+shipping the fee is well worth it. A quality work horse
combination hone costs about three times that and adding a
deluxe finisher to the game doubles that to six or seven trips
to a honemaster.
A honemaster will do one important thing that is often
overlooked. He will correctly set the bevel. Once the
bevel is correctly set maintaining the edge gets much
easier.
Edit: do see the WiKi above for beginner hints.
Do look at some of the full kits that include
a strop. You will need to strop your razor each
day so get a good one (need not be expensive).Last edited by niftyshaving; 09-30-2011 at 06:50 PM.
