Thread: lather machine

I think the Lather King is really cool......unfortunately, everything Jimmy pointed out is quite true.

Never knew about lather machines. Sounds impractical but very interesting!

I have one, that my barber is currently using while his gets repaired. Jimmy hit the nail on the head. Not only can you produce better lather with a brush, soap or cream; but the lather doesn't hold heat very long. They are cool though. Great for the back of your neck, but not ideal for your face.

The bottom line is they are designed for a shop where lather is dispensed on a continual basis throughout the day and you are looking for a product that gets the job done in a workmanship type of way. They are impractical for home use and from personal experience produce lather I would not want to use.

Errrr I dont want to sound stupid, but I have to ask. Has anyone devised a way of warming lather or creating warm lather with a brush? Obviously the hot water used to create lather is warm, but are there any other odd techniques to warm up lather?

It's not that important, in the grand scheme of things, just a comfort and personal preference, but I suspect it would feel awesome to have warm lather at home.

What I do is make my lather in a mug sold by SRD. It keeps the lather nice and warm. I also add a few drops of warm water in the mug in between passes to keep the lather warm. Works great!

yes, my new invention an electric brush will do just that. I just have to figure out how to isolate the wiring from the water so the second test subject doesn't get electrocuted like the first did.

Actually, until then a good scuttle will keep your lather warm during the shave.
