    Question Difficult place to get an clean shave

    Still trying to master the art of str8 shaving I have a question for you masters out there:
    the hairs directly under my jawbone grow towards my neck. In the first pass they never come off (even with my DE or any cartrigde for that matter), I always have to shave them against the grain. Even if I shave against the grain with my str8 I have to give it anather pass with my (in short time) beloved DE.

    Can you give me any advice as how to shave this area with the str8 and get NO razorburn from scraping too much??

    Do I have to pull up the skin on my jawbone get it right, or do you have other techniques...

    You already contacted me on honing sessions. If you'd like we can talk about it then. For me it's the most difficult part as wel. However I've gotten pretty good results so far.

    What I do in this area is thinking of the razor like a squeegee for cleaning glass just follow the contour over and around in a N-S direction over my jawbone and then go against the grain S-N from my neck under my jawbone. Works for me. Just make sure the skin is especially tight going in the S-N pass.

    I think I've solved the problem you're describing.

    I first shave N-S down my cheek and down onto the neck...

    To clean up the jaw line, I pull my cheek up and run the blade E-W (horizontally) from chin back to the ear.

    Pulling the cheek up, moves the skin up from the jaw line to the side of my face where the razor can run flat.

    I pull the cheek up using my off-hand: I reach over my head, hook my cheek with my fingertips and pull up.

    If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I try to post a pic.

    Thumbs up Let's give it a try

    @thebigspendur
    As for I am dutch: please explain "squeegee", do you mean a washing-up-brush, as we call it?

    @tom
    That's what makes the most sense to me. That's the technique I will try tomorrow morning (on saturdays there is some more time to experiment)

    @LX
    See you next friday. Looking forward to it!

    A "squeegee" isn't a brush but what we call a "trekker" and is used to clear the water off of windows and such. Something a glazenwasser uses.

    Default Still learning

    Right, thnx LX.

    That's the way to teach them Americans some Dutch:

    squeegee = trekker ("tracker")
    window-cleaner = glazenwasser ("glaazenwasser")

    Default Needs a bit of practice

    Well guys, I just finished my saturdaymorning ritual and I must say whooow.

    I used both techniques, squeegee and skin-pull and both seem to work just fine for me. I only have to switch it from the second shave to the first, where as my skin seems to dry too fast for the second go. For shaving against the grain it's OK, but for the squeegee it is too dry.

    (Let's try to re-wet the skin before re-lathering, tomorrow )

    Anyway I'll keep you posted!

    huh. i thought, after reading the title, that you were going to regale us with an amusing anecdote about the dangers of straight shaving in truck stop bathrooms.
