Thanked: 0I bought into the straight razor craze last night from Larry. I went for the cosmetically flawed gear since I like to spend less money and I don't mind some minor personality flaws with this gear to start off.
There were plenty of folks who offered up beautiful $40+ razors, but I figured I'd heed the advice and start cheap, simple and effective.

Good call, I loan out shave ready straights to guys at work who want to try but aren't sure. I've had a few not like it but most did flip for the straights. Better spending less to find out!

Thanked: 0I picked up two other straights on the cheap... one shave ready Russion 11/16" from a member on B&B, and then a A.B. Anderson of NY from a local antique store for probably $5 or so (was part of a bundle of stuff) - but it needs to be properly honed and isn't something I'm financially up to acquiring the gear I need to do it myself.

Thanked: 30I got my straight at an antique store, cleaned it up myself and sent it to LarryAndro to be honed. I thought I did a good job cleaning it, but I didn't...I should have polished it better. It works fine though.
If I had known about Larry's sight unseen deals before I bought my razor and tried to clean it, as a stone-cold beginner I would have done that in a second. I would have eventually paid the same amount for a nicer razor and it would have a lot quicker and easier.
It's the only thing I regret so far in this whole endeavor.
