    Default First Razor

Hi all, first off i'd like to thank everyone for all the great posts and information. It has been a lot of fun reading and researching straights.

I'm looking to buy my first straight and was wondering if it is recommended to buy a first straight from the classifieds or from SRD or another site similar to that? I personally have been looking at Dovo Best Quality, but it seems like it would be a lot cheaper to go the classifieds route. Thanks in advance.

Any of the companies that advertise on SRP are a safe bet - but some great bargains can be had in the classifieds. Be careful of razors advertised as 'shave ready' on eBay etc, more often than not they aren't. Good luck!

    Buff02,

I have found the Dovo Best to be an excellent 'work-horse' razor that shaves well above it's price point.

If you do decide to go for it, you won't regret it

    Good Luck !

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

Any of the above and you'll be just fine. The main thing is that its quality and shave ready

Thanks for the help everyone! What is the advantage of the 3" strop over the 2"?

Most new razors are 3 inches long and it is easier to keep the edge and spine flat on the three inch when learning and with normal use. With the2 inch, you definitely have to do an X stroke to get the whole blade stopped. The 2 inch is a cheaper alternative and nothing wrong with it.

    Have fun.

I'm new to this and have done things a bit piece-meal. If I were starting from scratch, I'd get a 3" strop and Dovo blade from SRD as a beginning set. Also the only set you really need. I bought an inexpensive razor from eBay and it worked out pretty well, but a nice Dovo and strop would be a great way to start.

I was considering get the Dovo and perhaps a cheaper razor from the classifieds and keeping one shave ready so i know what i'm aiming for when stropping. I feel like otherwise i wont exactly know what to aim for.
