The zen of cuthroat , My first trip to Filli
So todays shave marks the first on back since my tussle with the DD spike. With all the encouragement from the members new and old I have decided to keep it and give it another shot. Not to mention the fact that I realized I have shaved with a spike in the past with no issues. Today though I decided to take my long awaited first trip to Fili. I recently had my Filarmonica #12 4/8 Dobl Temple Honed by Lynn and and have eagerly been awaiting the opportunity to use it. Today was that day.
My usual Hot shower preshave ritual was much the same as in my other posts but today I used the TOBS avocado shave cream. It is another cream that moves right to the top of my list. An almond size pinch and a fairly wet badger (more so than I use for most but not soaking) whipped the lather right up into a smooth marshmallow fluff consistency. Im sure it had much more glide than fluff but then again I have never shaved with fluff, hmmmm?...
All jokes aside it was great and made about twice as much lather as other creams using my almond size measurement.
While I whipped up the lather I let some T&H preshave oil soak in and then I stropped my blade 10 on the cloth 15 on the leather. After a couple of hot towels I lathered up my face generously.
With my first pass I realized right away why Filamonicas are so loved. Sure there pretty and particularly well balance but the edge lynn put on that bad boy was serious! While lynn did the leg work I have to give Filarmonica a great deal of credit and I think Lynn might say the same. It made quick work of four days of growth. WTG ATG & XTG was all I needed to get BBS. The 4/8 blade maneuvered easily around moustache and goatee and shaped both of them up quickly and efficiently. No razor burn , no nic's , no cuts , no problems. All in all my trip to Filli was great and my BBS souvenir is one Im particularly fond of, surely I will go back soon. In fact I think I will send my other Filarmonica out for honing this week and give that a shot asap.
Next razor on deck till I get that back is the Friodur and from what I hear, they are remarkable shavers.
Untill then Gents, I bid you all Good Shaving.
