Thanked: 4Big plus before it went wrong
Couldn't wait for the kids to be in bed and asleep tonight so i could have my shave, it still amazes me how much im looking forward to shaving now days.
Tonight i thought i would try a 3 pass shave for the first time , i have done wtg, xtg and atg separately but not altogether in one shave yet. Now i know its against advice with this being my 7th shave but i wanted to see what results i could get.
On my first pass it all seemed to come together really really good, what i noticed was as well as looking in the mirror and watching what i was doing, i actually started to get/understand the feedback from the blade, It felt really really good.
The second pass xtg also went really well and i thought the feel and the handling of the blade was becoming more second nature.
The third pass atg i went into a bit overconfident because atg i have had no problems with in the past and so far it was my best shave ever. Anyway it initially went well until i got to my jaw line, i then made a stupid mistake and had a little slice, not to be put off i carried on. Had 2 more slice in 20 secs so stopped the shave.
For my post have routine I rinse with cold water, apply Alum when that drys i use Thayes Cucumber witch Hazel followed in about 5 mins with a nivea double action balm which has chamomille in it. Even though all this is real nice I need to tinker with my post shave a bit i think. so any suggestions would be welcome.
Apart from my 3 cuts and having to stop the shave early my technique seems to be getting better ever shave. Im already looking forward to my next shave. Great fun!

Glad to see you're enjoying your self, mate.
Maybe you were a little overconfident doing around your jawline (we've all been there and have scars to prove it).
What I've done in the same situation is to stop, put the razor down, rinse off, stir the lather in the bowl and think of what I may be doing wrong, lather up and start again - SLOWLY and deliberately using less pressure and a lower angle for ATG.
I have found that works for me.
I hope things continue to improve for you - with less blood of courseHang on and enjoy the ride...

When you have cuts, using lots of shave balm, as opposed to after-shaves, can be important. Some after-shaves can dry out the skin. Balms keep the skin moist. Any trauma to the skin always heals better and more quickly when the skin is kept moist.

You sound like a relief pitcher who comes in mid game and gets some great innings and then runs out of stuff and loses the game.
Just keep at it and it will come and you will make it through the entire game.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
