Default 1 year waiting for first shave

Well, it finally happened. After one year of lurking around the forums, and researching...and researching....and researching...I finally embarked on my first Straight Razor Shave.

It was a Stainless Steel TI from The Art of Shaving store. It was a gift from my wife for our wedding in October. I have to say that all of the forums here were such a big help. It made the first shave much better, and gave me a world of understanding for what I need to do for next time.

I did go for the whole face, but found that it was a good learning experience as a whole. I only went WTG so I did not get the BBS shave that we are all striving for, but found that when I was really paying attention to the angle my shave was better than my fusion. No nicks, cuts, or unpleasant after effects.

I used the Red latigo strop from SRD before and after the shave, and can't wait for the next shave.

I just need to say thank you to all the members on here, especially the vets with their years of experience. You have truly helped make switching over to SR shaving a great and exciting experience.

Welcome to the Club, and congratulations on a well-researched start. BBS is just a goal, like 800 on the college boards, but is not a necessity. The real goal is to get a decent shave, learn something from each shave and have fun on the journey.

If it's the 5/8 Theirs from AOS with the black scales, I have that same razor and really love the way it feels in my hand. however I don't know about yours, but mine was NOT shave ready out of the box, It will shave, but now that I have 2 other truly shave ready razors I can really feel the difference... I sent it out to Lynn to be honed up and expect it should be a really nice blade once i get it back

Enjoy the ride, it just gets better from here@

I am in the same shoes, just ordered the 5/8 carbon TI razor with black scales from AOS. I believe this is different from the OP's razor as he mentioned it was stainless steel. Mine is not shave ready. I plan to send it out to have it honed and contact AOS customer service. Another member posted that he shipped his razor out for honing and AOS customer service cut him a check to cover the cost of honing.

I have another shave ready straight coming from Whipped Dog tomorrow morning and looking forward to my first shave with a real keen edge. Welcome OP!

    That was me,
I don't think they will cover the cost of honing normally, but in my case I sent it to Lynn and he reported back that it had bad spine wear indicating either poor honing or a bad grind. They at first offered to exchange it for me, but as I had already sent the razor out, they offered to cover the cost of honing.

But give it a shot, couldn't hurt
