Hello
I'm Sargon (well my real name is James, but I've used Sargon on forums for years), and I've been wetshaving for about 2 and a half years with a DE. I'm on a few other shaving forums, so if the nick name is familiar, I probably am the person you are thinking of. Finding my way here wasn't something I'd have expected, because when I started, I always thought to myself, " I really am enjoying this, but I can't imagine ever trying a straight razor, those guys are just nuts."
At some point I must have gone nuts, because, I started to get curious. I bought an inexpensive shavette, and, from time to time I'd shave with it. It was a very occasional thing, but I did get a bit more proficient with it over time. Eventually I was at an antique shop looking for a legendary $5.00 fatboy score, and figured that as long as I was there that Id' look at the straight razors they had. Most looked pretty dubious, but one was in surprisingly good condition, and, because there is no rhyme or reason to antique shops and razor pricing, it was pretty reasonable, so I took a gamble and bought it.
I eventually sent it off to be honed, and have received it back, and shaved with it a couple of times. They went decently by all accounts, in that I only had a very minor weeper, and did get decent beard reduction. So far, I don't forsee myself trading in my DE collection for a set of hones, so to speak, but if you'd asked me if I'd own, much less try shaving with a straight razor three years ago, I'd have looked at you like you were crazy, so who knows. I do know that I intend to keep it in my rotation, for variety, and, because, if nothing else, I find that the extra care needed to use it seems to help my next few DE shaves as well.
So, I'm glad to be here, and hope to learn a lot even if I am a dabbler.
p.s. I just noticed that there is an introductions forum, so if a mod could move it, I'd appreciate it.Last edited by Sargon; 12-05-2011 at 02:55 AM.

Welcome to SRP. Glad to see that you start using straights.
