Thread: Just Some Random Thought

I just finished another straight shave and everytime I do I think about posting my observations. Please take all this with a little grain of salt. First I lathered really well today, more than usual. I applied three layers of lather over hot water. First hot water, then some soap to clean my face. Second lather followed my judicious finger rubbing, for a solid minute (what's the hurry after all). Then I removed the second lather and felt the moist skin. I could tell the lather had impregnated the whiskers . . . Objective complete. BTW I built the lather on my hand held edge down. This way all the extraneous water in the brush automatically drips away from the lather. Cool huh?

I ended up stropping three times during my shave, which is very common for me. I don't need three stroppings, but what I do is carefully evaluate the edge performance and comfort with eah stropping tactic. The winner is usually a taut strop, but one held loosely enough to allow some deflection and stropping the edge with a little pressure too. Having tried other less effective tactics immediately before hand, during the same exact shave, gives me more confidence in the exact strop performance for optimum edge quality. I know, I sound like I'm obsessed with shave quality . . . Guilty!

I gave myself a great shave, even by my standards. BBS using only With The Grain (WTG) strokes. More importantly I'm left with that alabaster white skin indicative of a super close shave.
