Red face More exiting than running with sizers!

Hello every one! Thank you for all the time you all take to pass along the vast knowledge of experience in this forum.

Had my first straight razor shave tonight! Wow, what a rush! I'm up and can't go to sleep. Only did the right side of the face and with the growth only. Felt a little scratchy but not bad. Looking forward to my next shave on Wednesday night.

Thanks to you all I think I started with good equipment and creams. Here is what I have:

-Dovo "en vogue No.105" stainless steel razor (hone ready to shave by Vintage Blade)
    -Vie-long horse hair brush (13061)
-Castle Forbes lime shaving cream (need to use less next shave, it foam like a bleeding pig and it would not quit)
-Castle Forbes after shave balm (to match, lime oil).
    -Vintage Blade latigo strop
-Tabac soap (tried with fusion blade and liked the scent and the foam)
-Edwin Jager silver tip badger brush (not here yet).

Have been shaving with electrics for about 30 years. Wet shave with my fathers double edge razors when I started at 16 but switch to electrics at 22. That was until 6 weeks ago when I saw my son shaving with his best badger brush and creams from The Art of Shaving. Found this forum and the rest is history!

Looking now for my second straight and honing stones for after Christmas purchase. Any suggestions more than welcome! Thanks again and good night. Double O

P.S. I reeeeeaaaally like that Forbes shaving cream!

Good to hear, everything sounds good.
Take your time, no hurry with knife. My first shave took about 1 hour.

The stroping is crucial. Good stroping technique will give you good shave after and after.

    Have fun.

Thanks Mick and Brick. Had my second shave last night. Same enjoyment! Felt a smoother shave and felt tempted to continue the left side, but held up and try for the first time DE on the rest of the face. By the second pass(xtg) I felt comfortable with the merkur futur razor. How ever looking forward to the day I can do the whole face with the SR and leave the DE for occasional use. Double O
