Thanked: 1Going good so far but something I've noticed...
I seem to be smoother (less pull) when I am shaving with my left (non-dominant) hand as opposed to my right (dominant) hand. I theorize that this may be because I am applying more (read: too much) pressure when I hold the razor in my right hand and with my left since I am less confident in my grip I apply less, but I also feel like it could have to do with the angle. Only three shaves in so I am confident I will figure it out but does anybody have any thoughts or advice for me? Thanks.

Thanked: 2I've noticed this too, and I think the reason is exactly what you said... I'm a lot more timid with my left hand and so I think I use less pressure which makes for a better shave.

Try more with your non-dominant hand to do during the day.
Writing, drinking tea / coffee ect
You will see your skills grow with the non dominant hand.
For now, just do the easy parts of your face, ... like your cheeks.
And if you're more confident, try to extend it.
Above all, be patient it comes naturally
have fun

Thanked: 485Hi there. I noticed this when I first started (in June this year) but then I realised at least some of it was to do with the way my hair grew. The direction of hair growth on the left side of my face is a little different than on the right side of my face. Even though very early in my shaving journey I made sure I used both hands; I also find that there IS a slight difference to the angle I'm able to hold the razor at with my left (non dominant) hand. I doubt I'll ever be able to shave exactly the same with my left hand as my right. Maybe check your hair growth (mapping your face) and maybe adjust the direction of your stroke to suit. After almost six months I've only just got the direction of the shave and the pulling taught of the skin right on a little spot on the corner of my jaw on the left hand side, and there is STILL a tiny spot on my neck, LH side, I still can't get BBS as it needs a W to E pass on the neck, which for me is really hard.
As pmburk said; it's a life long experience, and who would want it otherwise? If we could do it 100% OK early into the thing it'd get BORING!!!
You've made two important steps. (1) to shave with a straight, and (2) to post at least 4 posts here. This place is THE place to learn SR shaving, there is no other... (IMHO)Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

You're learning a new skill so my advice is to keep at it and to shave deliberately. The skill will level out with both hands. You may even find yourself doing other things in life with your left hand just so as to make it more useful. The best thing to do is to keep at it and enjoy yourself!
